Menstruation Cramps and Lower Back Pain

You feel bloated, irritable, and not to mention fatigued. It is that time of the month again, and as such you have to deal with the usual symptoms of things like cramps and the lower back pain from those cramps.

Each month as an egg is released from the uterus, which results in your period, your muscles contract, thus causing cramps. It is kind of like a small labor as the egg is being released, and that is what results in the lower back pain.

Of course, what you really want to know is how you can get rid of that lower back pain and those cramps. Well, if you need fast relief, talk to your doctor about the various over the counter medications that are available to ease those symptoms. It should be noted that you should choose only one of these medications.

If you are not the kind of person to take medications, there are a variety of home remedies that you can choose from. Try drinking something warm and comforting, such as tea, which can ease the muscle contractions. You can also try taking a warm shower or bath.

Also, there is the option of placing a heating pad on your lower back for a few minutes at a time. The heating pad should not be on for too long, because too much heat can be dangerous. Of course, another soothing option is to get a massage.

Did you know that alleviating the lower back pain caused by menstruation can be as easy as laying on your bed in a certain position at night? It can be, and all it requires are a couple of pillows. Lay on your back, and place two or more pillows under your lower back. Next, slide your legs so that your feet are on the bed, but your knees are elevated. This can very much help the lower back pain.
